Photonic Simulation & Design Engineer - (m/f/d)

Type: Permanent

Start Date: Q3 2026

Location: Heidelberg, DE

Linq Photonics develops high-performance photonic integrated circuits based on thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) and silicon nitride (SiN). Our focus is on electro-optic modulation for demanding applications in quantum technologies, optical communications, and advanced sensing. A core challenge we tackle is the co-design of photonic and RF structures for bandwidths beyond 25 GHz.

We are looking for a Photonic Simulation & Design Engineer with a strong understanding of high-speed electro-optic devices. You will work on the full development cycle of high-bandwidth modulators and related components, from electromagnetic simulation to layout and experimental validation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and simulate high-speed electro-optic components (e.g. traveling-wave modulators)

  • Perform detailed electromagnetic simulations and verification using Lumerical and/or Tidy3D for optical design

  • Model RF behaviour (impedance matching, velocity matching, S-parameters)

  • Develop parametric layouts using gdsfactory and characterize devices in the lab (EO-Response)

  • Translate simulation results into fabrication-ready layouts and support tape-outs

  • Contribute to the strategic roadmap of our technology

  • Participate in building the team, by attracting and selecting world-class quantum engineers to work with you.

Key Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in Photonics, RF Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field

  • Proven Experience in integrated photonics and high-frequency electronics design

  • Proficiency in photonic simulation tools (Lumerical, Comsol and/or Tidy3D)

  • Solid understanding of RF concepts (RF-loss, impedance matching)

  • Experience with high-speed electro-optic devices and PIC layout design (ideally with gdsfactory or similar tools)

  • Strong Python skills

Preffered Qualifications
  • Practical experience with high-speed measurement setups (VNA, RF probes, high-speed photodiodes)

  • Experience with TFLN platforms, electro-optic modulation and packaging for high-speed devices

  • Familiarity with RF simulation tools (HFSS, ADS, CST)

Who you are
  • You are a builder. You are hands-on, enjoy discomfort and are not afraid to do things from scratch

  • You deliver results with meticulous attention to details and a systematic approach to problem-solving

  • You are autonomous, ambitious, organized, and enjoy driving a project

  • You value transparency and open communication, collaborating and earning trust.

  • You are eager to learn and grow. You thrive in an environment of high expectations, pushing boundaries to achieve breakthroughs.

What we offer
  • Experience with state-of-the-art high-speed photonic hardware

  • Direct ownership of device concepts from simulation to measurement

  • Fast iteration cycles between design, fabrication, and lab validation

  • Highly technical startup environment with real impact

  • Opportunity to shape core technology at Linq Photonics

  • Welcoming and inclusive team environment in a fast paced start-up

Take the lead in engineering the next generation of light control. We invite you to apply by sending your CV and a short motivation letter to the following email address: jobs@linq-photonics.com
